A missing dinghy in Glandore this evening 10th July gave rise to concern that a sailor had not returned safely. The Coastguard raised the alarm at 20:36 and requested that both lifeboats based in Baltimore be launched to initiate a search and rescue operation.

The Tamar class all weather lifeboat Alan Massey searched Castlehaven Harbour and Squince Harbour before diverting to an offshore search pattern as far East as the Galley Head.

The Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat, Bessie, searched from Sheila’s Point into Glandore Pier and escorted an inflatable dinghy encountered with 3 persons on board to Blind Harbour.

The search was stood down when it was determined that all sailors were accounted for. The two lifeboats were back in Baltimore again shortly after 23:00.

On board the Alan Massey were Coxswain Kieran Cotter, Mechanic Cathal Cottrell, Ger Sheehy, Colin Whooley, Brian McSweeney, Eoin Ryan and Pat Collins.

On board Bessie were Helm Micheal Cottrell with crew John Kearney and Diarmuid Collins.
