Baltimore Lifeboatmen win European sailing championships.

Congratulations to Cathal Cottrell and Youen Jacob of Baltimore Lifeboat Station who recently won the european 1720 sports boat championships, which were held at Kinsale Yacht Club. Cathal Cottrell (on the right, in the photo) is the long serving mechanic of Baltimore Lifeboat. Youen Jacob (on the left of the photo) is Helmsman on the Inshore ‘Atlantic 75′ Lifeboat, and crewman on the all-weather ‘Tamar’ lifeboat. The 1720 is a sports boat sailed by five crew. The boat was helmed by two time Olympian Peter O Leary, the other two crew were Robert O’ Leary and Jamie Donegan. Next up for our two sailors is the Fastnet Race in August, Youen and Cathal previously sailed the Fastnet Race, where they finished second overall and won their class, on George Radley’s ‘Imp’. Best of luck to the lads in that race.
