Lifeboat in shout to check status of lone offshore yachtsman
Concerns were raised when a single handed yachtsman lost radio contact with Valentia Coastguard this morning 27/10/2012. The alarm was raised shortly before 8am and soon after the Tamar class all weather lifeboat was making its way toward the last position given by the yachstman 25 miles offshore. The coastguard helicopter made contact with the yachtsman at a point 10 miles distant. The yachstman was uninjured and waiting for a wind change to make onward passage. The lifeboat returned to Baltimore at 1100 hrs approx. Onboard were Coxswain Kieran Cotter, Mechanic Jerry Smith, Pat Collins, Anthony Sheehy, Sean McCarthy, Colin Whooley and Micheal Cottrell.
