RNLI Baltimore in moonlit midnight tow

Baltimore RNLI All Weather lifeboat was requested to go to the assistance of a 35′ wooden yacht, which was disabled approx 4nm SE of Mizen Head with three people on board.

The alarm was raised at 12.21am and the lifeboat launched under Coxswain Kieran Cotter at 1230am. Wind was SW F 2 to 3, Sea – Slight with very little swell and Visibility – Good with a full moon. The Lifeboat arrived at the scene at 0120am and after putting one crew member aboard the yacht a tow was established. The Lifeboat brought the yacht safely back to Baltimore arriving in the harbour at 0325.

Crew were K. Cotter, A. Bushe, J. Smith, S. McCarthy, R. Minihane & P. Synnott with slip crew R. Smith, C. Cottrell, John O’Flynn, Vincent Roantree & P. O’Driscoll on launch and R. Smith & C. Cottrell on recovery
