Lifeboat tows vessel off rocks

The Baltimore Lifeboat responded to an emergency call for the second time today. “The Hilda Jarrett” was launched under the direction of coxwain Aidan Bushe at 5pm. The lifeboat was called out to rescue a 28 ft yacht, the “Sea Smoke”, which had gone up on rocks in the channel between Sandy Island and Sherkin Island. The yacht was towed off and there were no injuries to the one crew member on board. After the seaworthiness of the yacht had been evaluated, it was was able to proceed to Schull.

Earlier on Sunday Morning, the lifeboat had been placed on standby with a crew on board as emergency services were on full alert due to a fire in an aircraft, which subsequently landed safely in Cork Airport.
