Baltimore Lifeboat in search & rescue operation for Trawler on fire.

The Baltimore Lifeboat was launched at 13:14 on Friday 8th July 2005 following an alert that a fishing trawler, Saoirse, was on fire with two crew on board 19 miles West of Baltimore Harbour.

As the Lifeboat, Hilda Jarrett proceeded to the area of search, a local boat, the Amy K, arrived on the scene to take aboard the two crew who had taken refuge on a life-raft. The Amy K brought the crew ashore at Baltimore Harbour unharmed.

The Lifeboat stood by the blazing Trawler, while the Navy vessel , the L.E. Orla, made her way to the scene. At this point the superstructure of the vessel was ablaze. The L.E. Orla took control of the situation and the Lifeboat returned to base ready for the next call out.
