Baltimore Lifeboat rescues yacht aground off Heir Island.

Baltimore RNLI Lifeboat, Hilda Jarret, was called out earlier this evening to go to the assistance of the yacht, Mab, which had ran aground on rocks off Heir Island.

The 30 foot wooden yacht, with two adults and two children on board, had struck a rock, Carrignamoe, between Cunnamore Pier and Heir Island and had run aground. Another boat spotted the yacht in difficulty and raised the alarm. The lifeboat, which had been visiting Cape Clear for the annual Cape Clear Island RNLI fund-raising day, was immediately dispatched to the scene arriving there at 6.28 pm.

Another boat which also arrived on the scene took one adult and the two children off the yacht. The crew of the lifeboat assessed the situation and with the help of local diver (also a lifeboat crew member) who had also responded to the alarm, put a crewman on board the yacht.

The lifeboat then got a towline on board the yacht and pulled it to safety. As the yacht was undamaged, she was able to to return to Baltimore Harbour without further assistance. The lifeboat returned to base at 7.10pm
