Baltimore Lifeboat rescues yacht in difficulty near Stag Rocks.

Baltimore Lifeboat was called out for the second day in succession, when a yacht ran into difficulties four miles west of the Stag rocks today.

The yacht, a 37 foot ketch, Smart Lady, with three people on board (two men and one woman) broke down while on passage. Conditions were rough at the time with a force 6 WNW wind and a 1 1/2 metre swell running.

The yacht sent out a distress call at at approx 5.00pm and the lifeboat responded immediately, arriving on the scene at 5.35 pm.

The lifeboat went alongside the casualty and transferred one crew member on to it. He then helped those on board to rig a tow line.

At 5.42pm the lifeboat commenced towing the yacht back to safety. The yacht was berthed safely at Sherkin Marina at 6.30pm. The lifeboat then returned to base in Baltimore.

This was the second day in succession that Baltimore lifeboat has launched. On Sunday the lifeboat rescued the yacht Mab which had run aground off Heir Island.
