Baltimore Lifeboat in search for man overboard

At 02:10 Valentia Coastguard tasked the Baltimore Lifeboat to go to the assistance of a reported man overboard near Colla Pier, Long Island Sound, West of Schull. The lifeboat, Hilda Jarrett, was launched at 02:20 and proceeded to the area of the alert.

Whilst in transit from Crookhaven to Schull, 10 persons in a RIB struck a rock. One fell over board and the emergency services were rung by mobile phone. The RIB eventually picked up the man overboard, but neglected to cancel the call out and returned to shore.

The Coastguard RIB and the lifeboat searched the area until they were informed that the person was safe. The operation was stood down by Valentia Coastguard and returned to the station and was again ready for service at 04:30.
