Baltimore Lifeboat tows yachts with engine failure to safety

At 10:28 on Friday 12th August, Valentia Coastguard notified the Baltimore Lifeboat Station of a yacht in difficulty 2 miles South of the Harbour. Hilda Jarrett, the Tyne class all-weather lifeboat was launched at 10:34, in calm weather conditions.

The Lifeboat discovered the yacht, Murmer, with her sails up 3.42 miles south of Baltimore at 10.57. The Bristol based yacht had broken down with gearbox failure. There were two people on board.

The Lifeboat requested that the yacht furl up its sails and they put one of the Lifeboat crew onboard to secure a tow. This was complete at 11:07. The lifeboat towed the Murmer back to Baltimore Harbour. The lifeboat was made ready for service again at 12:30.
