Baltimore Lifeboat in EPIRB alert

The Baltimore Lifeboat, “Hilda Jarrett”, was launched just after 1100 this morning, 24th January 2006, in response to an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) alert. The International Rescue services received the distress alert on the satellite system indicating a position 51 14 N and 009 55W but with no further details of vessel identity or nature of the distress. The Lifeboat made best speed towards the location SW of the Fastnet Rock about 25 miles from Baltimore. A rescue services helicopter and other vessels in the area rushed to the reported position but no casualty was found. Baltimore Lifeboat was stood down before reaching the scene as the Coastguard determined that no further evidence of a vessel in distress was to be found. The Lifeboat was back on station by 1400 and refuelled and made ready for the next call. Crew for the operation were: Coxswain – Aiden Bushe, Mechanic – Cathal Cottrell, Jerry Smith, Brendan Cottrell, Micheal Cottrell and Brian Mc Sweeney.
