Baltimore Lifeboat assists fishing vessel in distress.

The Baltimore Lifeboat, “Hilda Jarrett”, was launched just after 19:20 this evening, 25th January 2006. Bantry Coastguard tasked the lifeboat to go to the assistance of the 29ft gill-netter “Roisín”. The vessel had broken down and was drifting towards the shore, half a mile from South Harbour, Cape Clear Island. As the lifeboat arrived on-scene, the crew of two managed to make temporary repairs to the engine and proceed under their own power. The “Hilda Jarrett” escorted the “Roisín” back to the safety of the pier in Baltimore Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 20:45 and was made ready for the next service. This is the second call on consecutive days for the lifeboat.

Crew for the operation were: Coxswain – Kieran Cotter, Mechanic – Cathal Cottrell, Jerry Smith, Eoin Ryan, John Joe O’Driscoll and Sean McCarthy.
