Baltimore Lifeboat tows Sailing Boat to safety

Last Saturday 24th June was the annual RNLI Baltimore Lifeboat Open Day. Visitors were invited to the station to look over the lifeboat house and the “Hilda Jarrett”, the Tyne class all-weather lifeboat. Some visitors saw more than was expected, when an alert came into the station mid-afternoon. A yacht had sent out a distress call 15 miles South East of Baltimore Harbour. The “Hilda Jarrett” was launched immediately.

A 34ft English registered yacht had departed Glandore Harbour in fine weather with two crew on board, a man and a woman. They had set sail for Spain and were only at sea for a few hours when they experienced difficulties and called for help. The lifeboat put a line aboard and towed the yacht back to the safety of Baltimore Harbour.

The lifeboat crew were: Coxwain – Ciaran Cotter, Mechanic – Jerry Smith, John O’Flynn, Don Donovan, Sean McCarthy and Pat Collins.
