Two RIBs call for assistance

The lifeboat was launched at 17:50 on 26th July when an inflatable dinghy with a 4 hp engine and two 16 year old boys on board were reported missing from Castletownshend.

The lifeboat was on its way to Castlehaven when it was diverted by a Mayday call from a RIB broken down with two people on board going ashore off the North harbour, Cape Clear Island. As the lifeboat passed through the Gascannane Sound reports came through that the RIB had been towed to safety by a private yacht.

The lifeboat was re-dispatched to search for the boys missing in Castlehaven. Later the operation was stood down when the Naval Vessel L.E Ciara located the boys and escorted them to Castletownshend.

Crew for the service were: Coxswain Kieran Cotter, Mechanic Micheal Cottrell, Aidan Bushe, Jerry Smith, Ronnie Carthy, Paul O'Driscoll and Don O'Donovan.
