Baltimore Lifeboat Station air sea exercise

Vessel Aground on Rocks Near Skeams islands

The lifeboat was tasked by Valentia Coastguard on 25th May and launched at 17:35, to go the assistance of a 50ft classic wooden motor yacht, Northele, which had fouled its propeller on a lobster pot buoy rope and was being pushed onto the Eastern side of the Stags rocks on an ebb tide.

The stricken vessel succeeded in freeing herself from the pot buoy and was escorted to the safety of Baltimore Harbour by the lifeboat. The classic boat had sailed from Cork Harbour to Baltimore to join in the wooden boat festival and many enjoyed watching her sailing over the weekend.
