Yacht aground Schull Harbour

The RNLI Baltimore Lifeboat was tasked by Valentia Coastguard at 05:50 on Tuesday 19th June 2007 to attend to a yacht aground in Schull Harbour.

The 39ft yacht was thought to have a crew on board when she broke from her moorings in the harbour and was swept onto the North Shore. In wet and windy conditions the lifeboat crew towed her off the rocks and brought her alongside the pier in Schull. As it turned out, the yacht was, in fact, unmanned and there had been no risk to human life. The lifeboat was returned to station at 08:30.

Crew for the service were Coxswain Aidan Bushe, Mechanic Cathal Cottrell, Gerry Smith, Micheal Cottrell, Don O’Donovan, John O’Flynn and Sean McCarthy.
