Bessie assists yacht on passage from Cork to Baltimore

The RNLI Baltimore inshore lifeboat, Bessie, was called today to assist a 30ft yacht taking water. The yacht had been making passage from Cork to Baltimore when the alarm was raised. The lone yachtsman taking a precautionary approach had called for assistance due to a consistent intake of of water although there was no immediate danger as her bilge pump was working. The yacht had almost completed her passage, having passed the Stags Rocks and being in sight of the Kedges Islands near the mouth of Baltimore Harbour when the Atlantic 75 rib stationed at Baltimore Pier was put on alert at 16:24. Coxswain Youen Jacob and his crew, Ronan Callanan and John McDonagh promptly went to the assistance of the yacht and accompanied her as she proceeded to Baltimore Harbour. The yacht was safely tied up along side the pontoon by 18:00.
