RNLI Baltimore all weather lifeboat was launched today Sunday June 2nd to assist a yacht in difficulty 1 mile south of Mizen Head in West Cork.

The 32 ft yacht with 4 persons on board had been propped by a pot buoy immobilising her in the water.

The alarm was raised at 10:41. The lifeboat Alan Massey was launched minutes later. The lifeboat proceeded to Broe Head to rendezvous with the distressed vessel.

A local RIB who had commenced towing passed the tow to the lifeboat and the yacht was then taken by the lifeboat to the safety of Crookhaven Pier.

This is the second shout this week for the lifeboat. Last Thursday three men without life jackets were rescued when their punt overturned near Horse Island.

On board were: Coxswain Kieran Cotter, Mechanic Jerry Smith, Pat Collins, Simon Duggan, Brian McSweeney, and father and son Anthony & Ger Sheehy.
