Preliminary figures* for summer 2010,  indicate that RNLI lifeboats were requested to launch 312 times during June, July and August in the Republic of Ireland. Baltimore was the busiest station with a total of 23 services.

Two lifeboats are based at the Baltimore station, Hilda Jarrett, an all-weather Tyne class lifeboat and Bessie, an inshore lifeboat Atlantic 75 RIB. The small coastal community displays a remarkable commitment to saving lives at sea. It fields an operations team in excess of 50 volunteers who are involved in launching and crewing the lifeboats, and a fundraising committee that consistently performs well beyond what could be expected of such a small village.

As well as saving lives at sea, the RNLI is actively involved in preventative measures. This year the Baltimore Sea Safety Officer, Michael Walsh, brought the RNLI Sea Safety Roadshow to Baltimore. During the roadshow the inshore lifeboat was called to provide assistance to a performance sports boat competing in a race event.

* RNLI lifeboat launch figures for summer 2010 are preliminary, with verification yet to take place.
